about

Richard Purcell

It isn't just about what you make, but also about how you make it.

A great image with pipeline efficiency is my primary focus.

My experience lies in bringing all the elements of an image together with shading/lighting/compositing, planning the pipeline through which everything flows, or creating the tool that facilitates the flow. I love to work from the micro level of a single shader, to the big picture, creating visual or technical frameworks where multiple artists can contribute to the outcome.

In addition to my daily work with the pipeline department, I am planning our introduction of Shotgun Software and Katana to the studio. When possible I do machine learning tutorials.

Specialties: Look Development, Shading, Lighting, Pipeline Design, VFX, and technical training
